“I am falling in love more and more with music”, I was going to start as I wrote this draft. But then I thought that would only be true if music was a new external being I was growing fond of. The truth, however, is that I am simply reconnecting with a deep-seated but long-suppressed part of my soul.
In reflection, I see that my most vivid memories of our founding days at FourthCanvas were the nights when we screamed the neighbourhood down with Imagine Dragons’ Radioactive, Sometimes by FUN, Jon Bellion, and more. Somehow music has always been there for me, as the thing that gave my life life the most.
At some point, I realized the only gadgets I was excited to spend on were musical. From iPods to headphones, and speakers. Today I own a keyboard, and I got a small drum from my last trip to Ghana.
Inspired by the crossover camping experience I had crossing into 2023, which was put together by the amazing music artiste, Tommy WA, I kicked off a daily challenge in collaboration with other ‘familiar folks’ to explore and find new songs from across the world, one country per day. It’s being a beautiful one, and I have been posting daily video summaries on my Instagram.
This year I want to lean in more. I will dance to songs without apology (and post them as if I am not supposed to be a tech CEO), share a lot more music-inspired content, get into the studio and just do whatever I find to do with other people. I have no career goals in music, just joy goals 😍
All of that said, I should tell you about the new song I am most excited about at the moment. No, it’s not from Solomon Islands. It’s called “Great Silence” by Reespect. You should listen and actually thank me later. Write back to me.
What do you deeply love but have ignored more than nurture? I am fixing mine. Will you let that inspire you?
great write up
